Opening Night a Smash!

Okay, imagine these people in a theatre...now, you get the idea.

Saturday, our opening night, was a sold-out success. The audience gave after homelessness... a long, enthusiastic standing ovation.

At the reception afterward I was barely able to elbow my way through the crowd to the cheese.

I've already heard through friends that people who saw the show this weekend are encouraging others to see the play. The momentum keeps growing!

The play deals with the human moments of creating safe, affordable and supported housing.

But for the nuts and bolts of the issue, come to the Community Dialogue Sessions: housing the homeless.

They're free. 1:30pm, Nov. 24, 25 and 26 at the Firehall (280 E Cordova St)

Day 1 starts tomorrow. It's called: "Location, location location"

Well folks, tonight is your chance to catch after homelessness... at a discounted rate!

No, you don't need reading glasses, it's true!

Tonight at the Firehall Arts Centre (280 E. Cordova St.) you can catch a preview of the show at 2 for 1 prices! Come with a friend and you will each only pay $5 for your ticket!

Come down early, doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm!

Reality has truly sunk in

I've been working on this project for about five months now, but until recently, the fact that we're putting on after homelessness... hadn't really hit me yet.

Well, the moment of revelation has arrived.

With three days until after homelessness... opens at the Firehall, things have really come together.

The production team moved into the hall yesterday, and the cast will be there for the first time today.

Reservations for the shows have been growing steadily and we've been fielding lots of calls for info and group bookings.

IT'S REALLY HAPPENING FOLKS!

Gachet Show Tonight!

ALSO....

Tonight is the opening of the Headlines, Oppenheimer Park and Hope in Shadows group show at Gallery Gachet (88 East Cordova St.)

Headlines will have the ten finalists from the photo contest, including first place winner Donna Ross with Stories Untold.

There will be a parade from Oppenheimer Park to the gallery at 5pm featuring the Homeless Band and friends of the Park!

Opening reception at Gachet begins at 6pm until 9. Join us to check out some amazing art!

The exhibit runs from tonight until November 29th.

I'm Gonna Be a Star!

Today we "wrapped" (that's movie talk, for you non-film folks out there) shooting for the commercial PSA our friends volunteered to create for after homelessness...

Shyam Wazir, who was part of the workshop for Headlines' 2005 production Here and Now came in one blustery Fall day a couple of weeks back and said he wanted to volunteer his services. Shyam has been working in film and offered to produce a PSA (that's public service announcement) for the show.

We told him we had no budget, but he assured us he would be able to gather a small crew and make it happen. In two weeks.

Of course we said YES.
He and JB, a veteran of TV and film production, got the crew together, got the story ready, gathered equipment and found actors for the shoot.

Yesterday and today they shot it.

The filming began at my Aunt and Uncle's house (thanks Aunt Polly and Uncle Mike and especially to Bing!) in the afternoon and moved over to the Russian Hall in the evening, where the cast have been rehearsing. **Don't worry, we did not interrupt.

We had the crew and a bunch of extras to create a theatre scene and it looked GREAT. If you look closely at the finished product, you'll get to see your truly in her first starring role...as an extra. Yep, that's right, I felt the power and prestige that comes with being on camera and I WANT MORE.

Today we moved the shoot to the Stanley Hotel in the Downtown Eastside and the Firehall Arts Centre, where the play will open on November 21st.

Both locations went well, and this weekend will be cutting and editing. I have also been pegged to be the voice for the commercial. Seriously, I am so going to break into Hollywood.
